Learn and Donate

I found this interesting site while browsing information for my research; Free Rice. I am attracted to its attempt to help its vistors' vocabulary improvement and end world hunger by providing rice for free. Quoting from the website:

Whether you are CEO of a large corporation or a street child in a poor country, improving your vocabulary can improve your life. It is a great investment in yourself.

Perhaps even greater is the investment your donated rice makes in hungry human beings, enabling them to function and be productive. Somewhere in the world, a person is eating rice that you helped provide. Thank you.

Lets play the word game and feed hungry people!

Blog revisit

Its been ages since my last post. I've peeked on and off to blog of my dear friends in NNC. I also started to peek into NNC for the last few days. To be honest, I'm envy to see they had produced all those elegant, gorgeous and delicate crochet, cross stitch, patchwork, quilt, tatting and the list goes on... Me? I've stopped all sorts of stitching in May. Few know I was not well for few months and few didn't.

Wish List Exchange

I crochet, I sew, I don't knit, I don't tat. Same goes with my friends in NNC. Each of us have our own "specialise" craft skills. We wished we can do that and we can do this. That leads to Wish List Exchange.

I wish for a pincushion or anything my partner would like to give. In exchange I offered crocheted doily, coin purse or quilted tea cosy. My partner, Radha offered crochted muffler, pincushion or needlecase. Since she would like to have scissors fob or "something" tatted or "something" quilted, I'll fulfil her wishes to have "something" quilted.

Me? Wonder what will I get? Muffler? Pincushion? Needlecase?

Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday Persi & Daisy, the only cats I have. I still remember a year ago, Cicak (the mother) chose me to be the midwife *blush*. She was in a box and I have to sit and wait while she delivered two black kittens. Its a miracle to watch these two kitties grows. The most amazing part was the change of colour from black to grey and brown.

Its a pity I couldn't find pictues of Persi & Daisy when they were babies. I'll upload their pictures later.

WIP: ???

While cutting material for my 9 Block Bag, I also cut the above materials. I simply make it without any intention of making anything. Just say, wait and see...

*Psssttt.... it might be the last material I touched this month. I started busy with IGFA Labuan International Game Fishing Tournament 2007. It is the anchor even for Labuan's annual Sea Challenge Event. I'll have it written in my Zest for Life Blog tomorrow.

WIP: 9 Block Bag

You can say I'm crazy. Yeah, I'm crazy with bag. My Maroon Quilt Bag is not complete, yet to have its handle or strip. Now, I started to make a 9 Block Patchwork Bag. While sewing this, I have a very BIG regret as it took me ages to make a perfect (or almost perfect or so so) match of the square corners. These are the front and back side of the bag:

Coin Purse

I'm out of my maroon thread... I'm stuck with my Quilting Bag, but I still want to work with my sewing machine. Lucky... I found some stash and a zip, enough to make a coin purse.

My friend said, the technique I applied is called "Slash Quilting". Hehehe... Never heard the name before. This was what I did:

1. Sew straight lines on 5 pieces of stash (1 thick material and 4 cotton)
2. Make the bag
3. Cut in between the straight line (only cotton) and I rubbed until it looks pluffy.

WIP:Quilted Bag

As I'm only at home for a week in the month of March, there was very little progress in my sewing and crochet projects. I started to complete my Quilting, unortunately, I' run ot of thread. *sigh*. Anyway, this is ow it looks like:

Since my sense of alignment was poor, the applique position was not at the centre. I'm thinking of doing some corective decoration on the empty spaces.Probably some bead works.

Next: Bag Strip.

So Called Tulang Belut

Tulang Belut or ‘Eel Spine’ is a decorative intricate stitch made at the neck of Baju Kurung or Baju Melayu. Both are traditional costume worn by the women and men. I personally found it was not easy to stitch the original Tulang Belut. I have done “Ulat Bulu” and “Karipap”, eventhough it is not a Tulang Belut, but I consider it in Tulang Belut family.

In my previous post of Some Ranting, I mentioned that I promised Emily photos of my tulang belut project. Here there are:

As the stitches are blended to the fabric color, the “ulat bulu” and “karipap” are not that clear. Maybe I’ll stitch them on a plain fabric with a contrast color of thread. *wink!*

WIP: Quilted Bag

Its late and yet, I'm still attached to my sewing and crochet. Eyes and shoulders started to ache and I decided to write a little bit. Then I'm off to bed. As a novice in applique, making one is not easy. At this moment, I'm satisfied with what I've done.

Since I did not success in my attempt to use couching/convent embroidery technique, I opted beads!

Next steps: 1. Zipper and 2. Bag strip

Kuraman Island Trip

My cheeks burned and sting! I would say, its worth it. Really enjoyed the trip. Here are some of photos I've taken:

Sea Maiden I: One of the boats we used to Kuraman Island

Its me. Starts to feel green/blue? Bitten by seasick bug. LOL

These are some awesome scene to look at:

Clockwise: 1. Pulau Mayat (Corpse Island) One of Islands surrounded Labuan. Its formed by Rusukan Kecil Island and Rusukan Besar Island. 2. Part of Kuraman Island. 3. Rusukan Kecil Island, good spot for fishing. 4. Look at the beach - clean, white sand and clear water. Don't look at the two models! *wink*

Hmmm... what else? We also did these:

And not to be forgotten, the welcoming note:

Weekend Get Away Plan

Picnic at Kuraman Island!! Me and few friends are going to have BBQ, swimming and probably some kayaking. But... what so special about Kuraman Island? I like the milky white sand and clear water beach. Say, I'm lazy to write... why don't you check it here for Kuraman Island information and here for Kuraman Island Package.

"shhhhh...." I'm going with a friend's boat, more or less its free. LOL!!!

Some ranting

Life was hectic for the past few weeks. Somehow and somewhere in between work, I try to crochet or sew and "peeking" into updates of friends in NNC. Also dropped few words, mostly on crochet (so that they know I'm still alive.. hehehe... *grin*). Reading their posts could warms the heart and most of all makes me wonder how they managed to have all those progress.

AND I owe Emily by promising photos of my "so called 'tulang belut'" sewing projects. All I have to say: Coming soon.
